The use of Surface Mining to lower benches in road tunnels has been used for a number of years, offering a number of significant benefits over other excavation methods such as drill and blast, rock hammers or roadheaders.
Each road tunnel project using this excavation technique presents its own unique set of challenges and this presentation will detail the use of Vermeer Surface Mining equipment to lower the bench on the two 9.0 km road tunnels at Northconnex.
Keynote presenter and specialist construction equipment sales professional Jeff Lawson will discuss the steps in bringing this excavation method to  NorthConnex, including pre-tender discussions, machine trials, delivery and the lessons learnt from this complex application.
This successfully completed excavation method confirmed the ability of Jeff, and the team at Vermeer, to deliver an innovative solution to the challenge of bench lowering on the NorthConnex motorway tunnel project.
The Queensland ATS Annual General Meeting (AGM) will also take place on the same night, beginning 15 minutes prior to the technical session.
