SWRL Hume Highway Underpass

The South West Rail Link (SWRL) is a NSW Government initiative to respond to issues of reliability and passenger growth on the metropolitan rail network and population growth in south-west Sydney. The project includes a new 11km twin track passenger rail line from Glenfield to Leppington via Edmondson Park and a major upgrade of Glenfield Station and bus/rail interchange. A major component of the project is the Hume Highway Underpass, a twin track tunnelled underpass 80 m long, passing at a depth of just 5 m below the highway pavement. A major project milestone was achieved on 22 January 2013 with the breakthrough of the underpass excavation. The speakers will present perspectives of the project and the highway underpass from the point of view of the Owner, the Constructor and the Designer.
