The Australasian Tunnelling Society (ATS) is pleased to announce that the Tunnel Design & Construction Short Course is to be held again in 2012. This year the course will be held in Melbourne over three consecutive days in late September. The course will be supported by a social program developed to give the opportunity for course delegates to meet with leaders of the Australian tunnelling industry. The course is open to members and non-members of the ATS.The Tunnel Design & Construction Short Course is structured to be of value to:
  • Tunnelling practitioners who wish to bring their knowledge up to date
  • Tunnelling practitioners who wish to learn about related fields in which they do not have direct experience
  • Practitioners that work in associated areas, such as education, insurance or with public authorities
  • Younger engineers and students who wish to gain an understanding of the work involved in the design and construction of tunnels
The course will feature a series of presentations by leading experts in the tunnelling industry on topics which are relevant to the current tunnelling industry in Australia. This will include topics such as health and safety, tunnel design, risk assessment and risk management, quality management, management of groundwater issues and tunnel construction. Course delegates will receive a comprehensive set of course notes, as well as access to the presentation material. In addition to the lecture style presentations, some topics will be delivered in an interactive workshop format.On behalf of the ATS, the organising committee wishes to extend an invitation to all tunnelling industry and associated industry practitioners, all young engineers, and all engineering students to participate in the Tunnel Design & Construction Short Course 2012.The Theme:The ATS Tunnel Design & Construct Short Course 2012 is a three day program and will feature a series of presentations by leading experts in the tunnelling industry on topics which are relevant to the current tunneling industry in Australia.
