Victoria Park Tunnel progress

vic9.jpgThe start proper on digging the Victoria Park tunnel is now only about six weeks away.

This Easter weekend’s removed of two drainage systems away from the area where the tunnel will be dug, is a final major obstacle to the start of the tunnel building. Preparation work has been happening around the area for some months and has led to restrictions on the Auckland Harbour bridge approach and affected traffic around the park at night. Around August, the historic Birdcage tavern will be moved up the road while the tunnel is built. The tunnel will be dug in five places at the same time. The project will be completed by mid-2012.
