The Australasian Tunnelling Society (ATS) is a technical society that aims to advance the knowledge of the Australasian Tunnelling Industry through areas of design, construction and utilisation of underground space, including technical aspects, health and safety, and ecologically sustainable development. The ATS is jointly sponsored by Engineers Australia (EA) and the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).

North Goonyella concrete

The records were set while solving a major problem experienced at the mine, 160km west of Mackay in Central Queensland.

Melbourne's Northern Sewer Project update
VICTORIATBM.jpgOn Friday 26 February 2010, TBM “Victoria” completed excavation of the final 700 metres of the tunnel from Newlands Road, Coburg North to Carr Street, Coburg North.

Minister for Water, Tim Holding was at Carr Street to welcome “Victoria”, and her breakthrough was covered as a news item by most of Melbourne’s major television stations.

Adelaide Desal Tunnelling Commences
AdelaidesDesal.jpgNessie the tunnel boring machine has commenced tunnelling for marine works as part of the Adelaide Desalination Project.
The second tunnel boring machine (TBM) to work on the project, Cora, has been lowered to the bottom of the working shaft and is being assembled into the launch chamber.

ITACET Tunnel Training Course
A 2-day ITACET tunnel training course will be offered prior to the ITA-AITES WTC 2010 Congress on Friday May 14, 2010 and Saturday May 15, 2010. The training tunnelling course will be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre.  It is organized by ITACET Foundation and coordinated by Garry Stevenson.
