Project Description

Thiess and John Holland were awarded a contract by BrisConnections to deliver the Airport Link project in Brisbane, Queensland. It is Australia’s largest road infrastructure project constructed to cut congestion and fix one of Brisbane’s most notorious bottlenecks. The project scope included the construction of the Airport Link toll road, Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and Airport Roundabout Upgrade.

Airport Link is a 6.7 kilometre mulit-lane electronic free-flow tollroad with dual 5.7 kilometre tunnels, connecting Brisbane’s CBD, the North-South Bypass Tunnel and the Inner City Bypass with Brisbane’s northern suburbs and Brisbane Airport. It also serves as a key distribution road, connecting some of Brisbane’s major destinations such as the CBD, Royal Brisbane Hospital, Chermside Shopping Centre, Brisbane Airport and Australia TradeCoast.

Thiess and John Holland also designed and constructed a section of the Northern Busway between Windsor and Kedron, and upgraded the East-West Arterial/ Airport Drive/ Gateway Motorway interchange at Brisbane Airport, referred to as the Airport Roundabout Upgrade.
