To recognise the NSW Chapter for their decade of generosity, the Garvan Institute for Medical Research hosted ATS members to a tour of their facilities and installed a special plaque on their Honour Board.

“The Garvan Institute got in touch with me recently to say they wanted to officially recognise the ATS’s ‘outstanding fundraising achievement’ by taking us on a tour of their facilities and listing us on their Honour Board,” says Brad Boardman from the NSW Chapter.

The Chapter has been donating all proceeds from their Annual Golf Day to the Garvan for the last 10 years, and this year the total amount donated topped $100,000.

Brad explained that the plaque on the Honour Board would be dedicated to Peter Watson, the long-standing ATS member who first suggested the Garvan as a worthy recipient for the Golf Day fundraising efforts, and who unfortunately passed away several years ago.

The tour and unveiling took place on the 9 December and Brad was joined by NSW Committee member Dave Clague, members of Peter’s family and the winners of the Peter Watson ATS Golf Day Trophy: DSI Underground. Brad and Dave also took the opportunity to present the Garvan with a giant cheque representing this year’s fundraising efforts, which totaled $17,000.

“It was such a great day. Along with viewing some of the popular features of the Garvan Building and the Kinghorn Cancer Centre, we were taken behind the scenes of genomic medicine research, which was fascinating,” continues Brad.

“I learned a lot about the important work they do and am truly proud on behalf of the ATS NSW branch and our supporters, in being able to give so generously. We are already looking forward to the 2023 event and trying to get to $20,000!”

The 2022 Golf Day was held at Ryde Parramatta Golf Course and the NSW Committee would like to thank all who contributed to making the day such a great event. There were more than 100 players, which is an outstanding display of support, particularly given the level of work currently on in Sydney.

“We thank all companies for encouraging participants to attend. Especially the non-golfers who had fun during and after their round of golf. Gatherings such as these would not be possible without our wonderful supporters, so a big thanks goes out to all those companies who provided sponsorships,” says Dave.

The NSW ATS would like to extend special thanks to:
