Dr Remo Grandori gained a PhD in Industrial Mechanical Engineering from the University La Sapienza of Rome in 1984. With a thesis on TBM excavation and rock cutting technology, he worked in mechanized tunnelling and was the Technical Director for several tunnel projects executed worldwide. From 1996 to 2007, he taught a course at the University La Sapienza as a contract professor on mechanised tunnel excavations.

Dr Grandori has been involved in the execution of more than 130 TBM tunnel projects for approximately 1100 km of tunnels bored in a wide variety of geologies and conditions. He has participated in the development of several innovations in tunnel and TBMs design, acting as a consultant to clients, contractors and TBM manufacturers. His cooperation with the Webuild group goes back to the late eighties and continues until today, having been involved in the study and execution of several major TBM projects in North and South America, China, Europe, Africa and lately in Australia.
